Genjuan International Haibun Contest 2013 deadline

The deadline for 2013 submissions  to Japan’s only international haibun contest, the Genjuan, is approaching fast. Please send your entries by post to the office in Tokyo by 31 January! Anything received within a day or two of that date will be accepted. All details are explained under the page link to the right. On another page, you can also read last year’s winning entries, or those from the Contest’s predecessor, the Kikakuza. Entry is free. There are genuine prizes and certificates. Genjuan wishes very much to showcase your best work.

Is there another contest (or, will there be) replacing the “Kikakuza” as the Genjuan and earlier Kikakuza are now the same (at least, as far as I can read…). I had not enough time for the Genjuan…

    • Dear Claire, the Genjuan Contest, although independent, is the successor to the Kikakuza International Haibun Contest, which no longer exists. You will have to wait now till next year’s Genjuan.

  2. sent my entry by post before the 31st but think it will take 3-5 days to reach Japan from the USA

  3. Garry Eaton Says:

Can one enter previously published haibun?

    • Sorry, Garry… No, you cannot. Unpublished work only. The next Contest will have a slightly revised set of rules issued in early autumn, so check back then, please.

Thanks Tito. I can’t resist a bit of word play on your unusual hobby. It’s entirely new to me.
