    The humour latent in the idea of busy buddhas (or bodhisattvas) is enjoyable and the word ‘rumour’ also casts the photo in an amusing light. The seasonal reference is essential.

  2. I took the photo in Kumogahata, a mountainous region about an hour’s drive north of Kyoto city centre. The small shrine in question is not even on google maps! It is, however, on poetry maps now!!
